The highly anticipated fourth and final grand slam – the US Open – gets underway in Queens, New York, starting on Monday, Aug. 29. The world’s top ATP players will be competing for the coveted title, the prestige of winning a major and the champion’s share of the tournament’s $60 million total prize purse.

US Open odds have been trading since the start of the season, but following Thursday’s (Aug. 25) draw reveal, the markets updated as individual paths to the title became clearer. As well, there are notable absentees at this year’s US Open, including Novak Djokovic (unvaccinated) and Alexander Zverev (injury).

All eyes will be on tennis betting favorite and defending champion Daniil Medvedev, 22-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal, and rising star Carlos Alcaraz.

Top-10 contenders Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud will be keen to make their breakthroughs at a major, in-form Pablo Carreno Busta and the resurgent Borna Coric will be looking to back up their recent ATP Masters 1000 victories, respectively, and NextGen star Jannik Sinner and American Taylor Fritz will look to cash in on their dangerous floater credentials on the tennis odds board.

Arguably, the men’s game is top-heavy with only a handful of players having a reasonable chance to win the coveted title. So, with that in mind, we highlight some of the best bets currently trading with top-rated betting apps such as BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel and more.

2022 U.S. Open Men's Predictions

Daniil Medvedev

Odds:

Medvedev, for the first time in his career, is the hunted and not the hunter. The reigning World No.1 is embarking on his first major title defense and while he’s the top favorite according to the tennis betting markets, he falls into a tough first quarter of the draw that is flanked by Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime.

The pair are on a collision course for a quarterfinal bout. Other quarterfinal opponents that could emerge to challenge Medvedev include Carreno Busta, former US Open champion Dominic Thiem, Alex De Minaur or countryman Karen Khachanov.

Auger Alissime or any of the other potential quarterfinalists are the least of Medvedev’s worries in the early rounds. His primary concern is likely to be Australian Nick Kyrgios, who looms as a potential fourth-round opponent. As well, earlier contests against American Stefan Kozlov (R128) and wild card Ben Shelton (R32) could prove tricky for the Russian.

Rafael Nadal

Odds:

Nadal’s surprising loss to Coric in the second round of Cincinnati curtailed his US Open preparations, but the Spaniard remains a favorite across sports betting platforms. (Winning 22 grand slam titles has that effect.)

Nadal, seeded No.2, falls into the fourth quarter of the draw, which means he avoids top favorite Medvedev until the final. On paper, Nadal’s section looks very favorable with Cameron Norrie as the second-highest seed flanking the opposite corner and looming as a potential quarterfinalist.

Alternative seeded quarterfinalists could emerge, including Andrey Rublev, Holger Rune and Denis Shapovalov, along with a couple of unseeded Americans in John Isner and Jack Sock.

In Nadal’s immediate vicinity Diego Schwartzman, Miomir Kecmanovic and American Francis Tiafoe are the top seeds. The unseeded threats on his path to the quarterfinals, which could prove tricky, are Aslan Karatsev and Fabio Fognini.

Nadal will open his campaign against wild card Rinky Hijikata. He could face Fognini in the R64, possibly Kecmanovic in the R32 and either Schwartzman or Tiafoe in the R16.

Carlos Alcaraz

Odds:

Teenage phenom Alcaraz is the third-best bet entering this year’s US Open, according to the best sportsbooks. The 19-year-old had a standout first half of the season, winning a couple of ATP Masters 1000 titles and becoming the first player to beat both Nadal and Djokovic on clay in the same tournament.

Since the start of the American hard-court swing, Alcaraz has had mixed results, crashing out of Montreal in his first match and reaching the quarters of Cincy. Alcaraz falls into the third quarter which includes a couple of players who’ve recently beaten him – Lorenzo Musetti and Sinner, and either one could be a quarterfinal challenger.

There are threats closer to home, however. Alcaraz opens his campaign against Sebastian Baez. Either Tallon Griekspoor or Federico Coria are possible R64 opponents, while Jenson Brooksby or Borna Coric are among some of the threats that could emerge in the R32.

Marin Cilic and Daniel Evans are the seeded players in his immediate section, on track to meet Alcaraz in the R16. Whereas unseeded threats such as Jiri Vesely or James Duckworth could set up a surprise R16 matchup.

Nick Kyrgios

Odds:

Kyrgios enjoyed his major breakthrough at Wimbledon when he reached his maiden grand slam final (l/ to Djokovic). For Kyrgios to make another deep run or reach a second straight final on tennis’ biggest stage, he will have to navigate a path that will likely take him through defending champion, Medvedev. Kyrgios opens his campaign against BFF Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Stefanos Tsistipas

Odds:

The No.1 Greek has been knocking on the door of major success but he’s yet to go through it. Tsitsipas falls into a loaded second quarter that is flanked by Casper Ruud as the second-highest seed.

Interspersed between Tsitsipas and Ruud are several stumbling blocks, including Matteo Berrettini and Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul. Berrettini is on a collision course with Tsitsipas in the R16, while Paul is a potential R32 opponent and Fritz a potential R16.

In the early rounds, Tsitsipas could face dangerous floaters such as Lorenzo Sonego, Yoshihito Nakashima or Alexander Davidovich-Fokina.

Best American Bets For 2022 US Open

The top American bets currently trading are Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, but they both fall into Tsitsipas’ quarter and are set on a course to possibly meet in the fourth round. Paul could also face fellow American Sebastian Korda in the second round.

Long-shot American Bet

The US Open draw is stacked with American hopefuls such as J.J. Wolf, Shelton, Denis Kudla, Cressy, Sam Querrey, Brooksby and John Isner, to name a few. Arguably, Isner is in the best position to capitalize in Norrie’s section of the fourth quarter as he could burst it wide open.
